Questions

If yours isn't here, ring us — you'll get the people who built it.

The basics

Will it change anything in MYOB?

No. The Connector reads your MYOB information and copies it to your database. It never alters your MYOB company file.

Where is my data actually stored?

On your own PC, in a folder you choose. It goes straight from MYOB to your machine — it isn't copied to our servers and we can't see it.

Do I need to know about databases?

No. The Connector creates and manages the database for you. If you can install a program and sign in to MYOB, you can run it. You only need database knowledge if you want to write your own queries — and most people either point Excel at it or just ask it questions.

Is my MYOB password safe?

We never see it. You sign in on MYOB's own page and approve access there. You can withdraw that access from MYOB at any time.

Does it work on a Mac?

Not today — it's Windows software. Tell us if a Mac version would matter to you; it helps us decide what to build next.

Syncing

How often does it update?

As often as you want — daily, hourly, or every few minutes. You can also set a periodic full refresh that re-reads everything from a date you choose, so nothing drifts. For a live dashboard we'd suggest 5–15 minutes; there's little point polling faster than your data actually changes.

What if my PC is switched off when a sync is due?

Nothing breaks. It runs at the next scheduled time and catches up on everything that changed in the meantime.

What if my internet drops out?

The sync retries later. Your database keeps whatever it already has — nothing is lost. And because the data is on your machine, you can carry on using it while the internet is down.

How far back can I bring data?

As far back as your MYOB file goes. You pick the start date on the first sync — most people bring a couple of years across and then let it keep up automatically.

Does it slow MYOB down?

No. Routine syncs only ask for what has changed since last time, so they're light. And once the data is on your machine, reading and reporting on it doesn't touch MYOB at all.

Asking your data questions

What do I need for that?

The Connector syncing a company file, and Claude Code installed on the same PC with a Claude account. We give you a small folder of files to drop in — it finds your data by itself.

Can it change my figures?

No. It's read-only by construction — it can answer questions but physically cannot alter an accounting record.

Is my data sent anywhere when I ask a question?

Your database stays on your machine. Only what's needed to answer the question you asked is involved, and your MYOB sign-in details are walled off entirely.

How do I know the answers are right?

The Connector ships with a written dictionary of your accounting data — what every field means, which one holds the balance owing, how the tables join. That's read first, which is what stops the confident wrong answer you'd get from pointing AI at a raw accounting database.

Is there a limit on how much I can ask?

No. Nothing is metered and nothing is throttled — it's reading a copy on your own machine.

Can it really produce a Word document?

Yes — with a table, a chart and written commentary. Ask for it in those words and you'll get one.

ProActive UI

What is ProActive UI?

Working screens for the data the Connector puts on your PC — the ProActive layouts DataWise customers have used for years, rebuilt on your own local database. The first one is Sales Invoices. More here.

Do I have to buy it?

No. The Connector is the product that matters; ProActive UI is optional. Many people use Excel, Power BI or their own software to look at the data instead, and that costs nothing extra.

Can it change my MYOB file?

No. It only reads. There is no path in the software that writes back to MYOB, so nothing you click in it can alter a ledger. Raising documents is planned, and when it arrives it will be a deliberate, separate step.

Can I build my own screens instead?

Yes, and you owe us nothing for it. The database is yours, on your machine, in an open format — anything that can read it can be a front end. We are happy to build one for you, but you are not obliged to buy ours.

Does everyone in the office need their own copy?

They can each install it, but there is only one licence per company file. It can also read a Connector's data folder across your network, so the sync runs on one always-on PC and everyone else just looks.

Licensing and money

Is it per company file or per computer?

Per company file. Install it on as many computers as you find useful — the licence follows the MYOB company file, not the machine.

Does my accountant need their own licence?

No. If your company file is licensed, your accountant or bookkeeper can work on that same file without paying again.

Do you charge per user?

No. A three-person office pays the same as a one-person office.

Can I run more than one MYOB company file?

Yes, as many as you like, from one installation. Each gets its own database and schedule, which is why accountants and multi-entity groups get on well with it. Each file is licensed separately, and volume pricing applies as the number goes up.

What happens if I stop subscribing?

Syncing stops, but your database and everything already in it remain yours and stay on your PC.

Is there a setup fee or a contract?

Neither. You install it yourself in a couple of minutes, and it's month by month.

What it doesn't do (yet)

Do you support Xero?

Not today — the Connector is built for MYOB. If Xero would be useful to you, tell us; it genuinely helps us decide what to build next.

Can it write back to MYOB?

No, and that's deliberate. It reads only, so it can't damage your accounting records.

Does it do payroll?

Not at present. Ask us what your situation needs and we'll tell you straight whether it's a fit.

Didn't find it?

Ask us directly. We'd rather have the conversation than have you guess.
